Zenberry Energy Smoothie Recipe

Would you eat more vegetables if they tasted like chocolate?  We would! This energy smoothie uses Zenberry Greens which is packed with  leafy greens like kale and spinach but it doesn’t taste like lawn clippings or medicine. We hate that.  In addition to the leafy greens it has grasses like wheat and barley grass, sea vegetables (one of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet), algae like spirulina and chlorella, probiotics and enzymes for your gut health, and a sane amount of organic vegan protein to help keep you full and repair and build muscle.

This smoothie adds some fruit and chia seeds for added calories and anti-oxidants as well as some fiber.  Fiber is the most often overlooked element of the American diet and studies show it’s much more important than protein intake.  Something the western diet never lacks is protein so stop worrying about that.  Even vegans get nearly double the recommended protein, daily.  If you’re worried about whether or not plant-based proteins are “complete” or as good as animal protein, read this article about the flawed studies the lead to the concept of “protein combining” when it comes to plant protein.

INGREDIENTS

  • 8-12 oz coconut milk (or coconut water)
  • 2 TBSP Zenberry Greens
  • 1 tsp. Chia Seeds
  • 1/2 cup Blueberries
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • Optional: uncooked rolled oats for a heartier breakfast. Add ice for a thicker consistency.

DIRECTIONS

Blend in a high speed blender until smooth. Drinking this first thing in the morning will help populate your gut with good bacteria and support your body’s alkaline balance.
