Rise and Shine Smoothie Recipe

The Rise & Shine Smoothie is a great way to start your day. Full of superfoods and leafy greens plus the boost of organic, fair-trade espresso beans, this quick breakfast will power you through to lunch.  There are new studies showing some health benefits of coffee.  While it’s not perfect and each individual person may react differently to coffee and caffeine, it’s not the dietary sin it used to be.  Coffee has shown to benefit the cardiovascular system, liver as well as reduce type 2 diabetes. You can learn more about coffee from this article from Harvard Health.  The key to remember is moderation especially if caffeine has a strong effect on you.  Don’t consume caffeine in the afternoon if you have trouble sleeping because it take longer than 6 hours for the body to process caffeine which can affect sleep patterns.  Zenberry Holy Frappe is a favorite of the Zenberry cycling team because caffeine not only reduces perceived exertion (how much you think you’re hurting) and increases glycogen uptake (by 60%!) post-workout.

  • 3/4 cup toasted coconut milk
  • 2 TBSP Zenberry Holy Frappe
  • 2 TBSP coconut flakes
  • 1 small banana (frozen is great)
  • Dash of cinnamon on top
  • Optional: ice if you like it thicker

Directions: Put all ingredients into a high speed blender (except the cinnamon- sprinkle on top when done) and blend until smooth.

Happy Thanksgiving

I’m most grateful for, of course, my health, family, friends and all that jazz. There isn’t much in life more important than those things (ask anyone who is sick). Putting those aside as givens, I’m so grateful for the amazing experiences I’ve had in my life (good and bad). The things I’ve seen, the beautiful places I’ve visited, foods I’ve tasted, the mountains (literal & metaphorical) I’ve climbed. I’m grateful for all of the relationships that have passed through my life. Each one has given me something, adding to what makes me, me. Painful experiences shape us as much as amazing ones.
