Aztec Gold Smoothie Recipe

This creamy chocolate Zenberry smoothie recipe will take you south of the US border to beautiful Mexico! With its cacao, cayenne (or chili pepper) and cinnamon heat, it is a hot, hot, hot and delicious smoothie.

As you know, we’re cacao lovers and eat it daily (why we haven’t gotten tired of our best-seller Zenberry Greens in a decade!). Cacao is considered “the food of the gods”.  Cacao beans have been used as food, medicine, and even currency (Aztec) for thousands of years.

This week, though, we bring in another focus ingredient: chili pepper or cayenne pepper. Chili peppers are an aphrodisiac and are praised in the kamasutra for their sexual potency. Studies have shown that capsaicin significantly enhances testicular cell growth and increase testosterone. They promote vascular and metabolic health. The combination cinnamon (warming, sweet), pepper (heating, pungent) and cacao (bitter, pungent and heating energy).

Ingredients

1 cup cashew milk (store bought or soak a handful raw cashews overnight)

1 frozen ripe banana

2 TBSP Zenberry Greens

1 TBSP unsweetened almond butter

½ Tsp cinnamon powder

Pinch of cayenne pepper or chili powder

Optional: 1 TBSP raw cacao nibs for topping

Directions

If you’d like a richer smoothie, soak a handful of raw cashews overnight, drain and blend with 1 cup of pure water to make your cashew milk (my preference for a more decadent and nutritious smoothie). Then blend all ingredients together and top with cacao nibs.
